Shopping your closet is the best budget tool you can have.
You bought it right?
You liked it when you bought it right?
You wore it and felt good right?
Then why is it still in your closet and stopped making appearances?
The older I get, the wiser I’m getting on managing being an emotional spender (that pleases my dear mother greatly lol). I used to justify why I deserve that dress, pants etc… often times than none, I would end up second guessing those purchases or worst have them in the back of the closet and never wear them.
Not that I don’t shop, oh trust me I still do, but I do so within reasons. I don’t just shop to shop, I do so with a purpose (i.e. a wedding, lack of an item…) I just don’t run to my fav store, cop the next hot item cause I couldn’t get my emotions in check. From time to time, I like to go to my closet and shop. See how I could re-vamp a piece that I already own, I always end up falling in love (again) with that item or remember how I felt wearing it. Also, being more emotionally intelligent, handling MY emotions, not allowing them to check me, I end up saving in the process…see how it comes in full circle?
Now before you go get that “thing” you were eyeing at the mall, go see how you can revamp something you already have in your closet… wear it again, it’s okay to wear clothes you’ve already worn. It’s even okay if it was last season too!
